Traveling long-term in Chiang Mai with a kid is wonderful — but there comes a point when dad genuinely needs a break. After 10+ days exploring the city with Seojin (7 years old), I started looking for a place to drop him off for a few hours. That’s how I found ABK Art and Studio. If you’re wondering about daycare options in Chiang Mai with kids, this one’s worth knowing about.
ABK Art and Studio — Think English-Friendly Daycare
I wouldn’t call it a full English school, but it’s more accurate to think of it as an activity-based daycare with an English-friendly environment. Kids from various nationalities attend, and the staff communicate in basic English, so your child will definitely get some exposure. It leans more toward hands-on activities than formal English instruction.

Morning, Afternoon, or Full Day — Lunch Included in Morning Sessions
You can book morning, afternoon, or full-day sessions. I mostly went with the morning slot, which conveniently includes lunch. On days when Seojin came out saying “the food was good today,” I knew it was a success.
Each day includes roughly two activities. According to Seojin, they did cookie baking, cake making, building projects, drawing, and outdoor water play on different days. The rotating activities meant he never got bored.

Seojin’s Take: Nervous at First, Totally Settled by the End
He was a little nervous the first time — new environment, new kids. But when I came to pick him up, he was mid-activity and looked genuinely reluctant to leave. Over the 10-day trip we sent him 4 times total, and by the end he was mingling with the local kids like he’d always been there. Almost a little too comfortable, honestly.

English works better than Korean here. Just let them know the date, preferred session (morning / afternoon / full day), and your child’s age — that’s it. Response time was pretty quick in my experience.
Tips Before Dropping Off Your Kid
- Make sure your child can handle separation — For very young kids this can be tough. Seojin was 7, which made it easy. Younger kids may need more reassurance.
- Teach a few basic English phrases — “I’m hungry,” “I need the bathroom” — just a couple of phrases goes a long way in making your child feel more confident.
- Pack a change of clothes — There may be water play activities. An extra set of clothes is always a good idea.
If you’re doing a longer stay in Chiang Mai with kids, ABK Art and Studio is a genuinely useful option. For traveling dads who just need a couple of hours to breathe — this place gets it done.
