Chiang Mai King Cobra Show & Siam Insect Zoo with Kids — Honest Review

We visited the King Cobra Show and Siam Insect Zoo in Chiang Mai with Seojin (6 years old) — all in one day. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to be this good. Here’s an honest review of the Chiang Mai cobra show with kids, plus tips on how to make it worth the trip.

Getting There by Bolt — Negotiate a Round Trip

The King Cobra Show is about 40 minutes outside the city center, so we used the Bolt app to get a taxi. On the way there, I was already wondering how we’d get back — and the driver beat me to it. He asked if we wanted him to wait. We agreed on double the one-way fare, and he stayed the whole time. It actually worked out really well. If you bargain a bit, you might get a slightly better deal too.

Siam Insect Zoo First

We stopped at the Siam Insect Zoo before the cobra show. I’ve been to insect museums back in Korea, and in terms of scale, this is more of a small hands-on exhibit. But that’s not a bad thing. Beyond insects, there are reptiles, turtles, lizards, and feeding experiences you can pay for. A staff member let Seojin hold a spider and a lizard, and he loved every second of it.

The King Cobra Show — Way Better Than Expected

I genuinely didn’t think a cobra show would be this entertaining. The handler walks right into the crowd with a cobra, explaining everything along the way — with jokes mixed in, so the whole atmosphere is surprisingly fun. Watching the cobra rear up and spread its hood up close? That gets your heart going a little.

Hands-On: Python, Scorpions, Green Snake

After the show, there are all kinds of hands-on experiences — draping a python around your neck, holding scorpions, wearing a green snake. Seojin did all of them without hesitation. He wasn’t scared at all — if anything, he was having the time of his life. My heart was racing more than his.

One scorpion in each hand. Non-venomous, apparently — though I wasn’t about to test that myself.

Combine It with Nearby Attractions

The King Cobra Show is far enough from the city center that going just for this would feel a bit wasteful. I’d recommend combining it with nearby spots for a full-day itinerary:

  • Siam Insect Zoo — Right next to the cobra show. Reptile and insect hands-on experiences.
  • Tiger Kingdom — Hands-on tiger experience (check in advance if they have cubs small enough for kids).
  • Elephant POOPOOPAPER Park — A factory tour where paper is made from elephant dung. Kids love it.

Tips for the Cobra Show with Kids

  1. Book a round-trip with your Bolt driver: Negotiate upfront — it’s easier and often cheaper than hailing a separate ride back.
  2. Combine with nearby attractions: Siam Insect Zoo is right there. Tiger Kingdom and POOPOOPAPER Park are close enough to make it a full day.
  3. Let kids lead at their own pace: The hands-on experiences are optional. No pressure to hold the snake if they’d rather just watch — but most kids end up wanting to try everything.
